In this article, I will teach you how to opt out of letting ChatGPT feed their language models with your data.

But first: let’s understand why it’s important to opt-out of processing data if you enter to chatgpt one of the below:

• your company’s data

• any personal data.

BUSINESS DATA

In terms of business data from your company:

the non-disclosure clauses in cooperation agreements usually prohibit sharing company data with a service provider without the company's consent.

It may lead to a data breach.

ChatGPT is a service provider that not only uses data you insert but does not prohibit others from knowing this information.

There is a likelihood that based on the data provided, language models learn something and later share it with ChatGPT users.

This poses a risk of a data breach.

PERSONAL DATA

Concerning personal data:

Data Protection Laws around the world, including the European Union’s GDPR, prohibit sharing personal data without a valid legal basis.

ChatGPT is a language model developed using among others information that ChatGPT’s users provide.

If you put someone’s personal data to chatgpt (be it emails, resumes, indirectly identifiable information, etc) you transfer the personal data to the tool which will process these data for their own purposes: teaching a language model.

ChatGPT collects users' data & feeds its language model by default.

Without a legal basis, it is a violation of this law.

REMEDY

To make the ChatGPT stop using your data you need to fill out the Google form.
